Solid rotational form

My initial experimentation of the rotoform began in Fusion 360. By constructing multiple iterations of a curve and revolving them around an axis I was able to quickly create many potential prototypes.

I was particularly interested in making a split in the revolved bodies that would reveal new insights into the form. I found that by dividing the form a second time along its central axis the shape could be recombined to form an intensely complex geometry.

Cutting Guide

The rotoform construction began with creation of a 4" x 4" x 18" block joined from four plies of poplar lumber

The edges of the block were tablesawn at 45 degree angles to form an octagonal blank, for use on a wood lathe

Continual refinement on the wood lathe using the printed guide for reference measurements
