In the modern day, medicinal marijuana and other controversial drugs have become a more apparent and accepted in society. A new chocolatier named Defonce is making a break into the edibles industry in California. Defonce has answered a common issue of first time edible consumers of over-ingesting. Defonce's chocolate bar is divided into a geometric design of 18 pieces that each have exactly 10mg of THC. A helpful diagram of the geometric section breaks of the bar, is located conveniently on the wrapper. The combination of graphic and product design into both the bar and wrapper solves a very real problem in a beautiful way.
Not only for recreational drug use, Defonce's example of measuring dosage through chocolate bars could potentially be applied to prescription drugs through a variety of foods. Another possible application to medicine is the potential to mask foul tasting medicine. For the superbug MRSA, one of they few options of treatment is one of the most foul tasting medicines in existence. Imagine a world where taking medicine is both a safer and more enjoyable practice through culinary design. A medium where children get excited rather than dreading medicine.
Defonce is but one company treading the edge between the pharmaceuticals and food industries. Innovative design such as this will always be needed to break the mold of the way we are doing things, and push us towards a smarter and more conscious lifestyle.
