Practical cars. Fast cars. Crazy cars.
The Chevrolet SSR is the later. No brainchild is more outlandish. It is a convertible pickup truck with 1950's retro styling. All of this in the year 2003. So why in 2003 would anyone in their right mind want to by a convertible pickup at a price tag of $50,000?
The SSR is truly a product of the mind of thought "why not?". Years before General Motors would declare bankruptcy, they produced this automobile and it sold. It is definitely a weird and strange combination of utilitarian pickup and aggressive sporty convertible. I must applaud it for while it is unconventional, there truly is nothing else on the road like it. Perhaps it was nostalgia that drove GM to produce the SSR. Others might see it as a boastful expression of "build it and they will come". Regardless of its quirks it truly is in a class of its own. Today most executives would shoot an idea like this down immediately. This is the purest example of pushing boundaries even in the face of rejection. Breaking standards is the recognition of potential failure but exploring anyways.
