The intersection of beauty and function

The Eames Lounge Chair. A classic of contemporary design. You can see them in museums, on TV shows, in architectural renders, and much more. They seem to be a piece every designer aspires to own. It is certainly an example of quality craftsmanship to draw inspiration from.
Over 50 years ago when Charles and Ray Eames designed the lounge they were hoping to imbibe an inviting feeling of a worn down baseball glove. Even today the lounge is constructed by the Herman Miller company from bent plywood, leather, and metal legs: a classic combination.
But what makes a chair such as this attract a cult following. Charles and Ray were notoriously attentive to detail and the lounge is as much an aesthetic sculpture as a comfortable seat. Herein between this sweet spot of appearance and functionality, in my opinion lies truly trans formative design.
